October is Eat Better

Be discriminating with the pricey items. It may sound unfair,
but if you’ve ever had a hungry teenager, you know that the
boundaries are… well, fungible. If you’re entertaining and
purchase some expensive items for that occasion, do not tempt
fate; hide the gourmet meats and fancy cheesecakes until the
event – and then, by all means, include your kids if they
are so inclined. Similarly, know your guests; while my kids
would eat most anything, not all of their friends were
adventurous eaters and to avoid wasting food, I stuck to
crowd pleasers when I knew I’d be feeding groups.

October is Eat Better, Eat Together Month which provides an
opportunity to come together as a family to share good food
and enjoy meals in each others’ company. It’s also a good
time to look at your family food budget, engage your kids in
conversations, and come up with sound financial strategies to
ensure your food spending makes good sense.

Apparently, Scotland Yard doesn’t believe a big ol’ neck
tattoo epitomizes professionalism. So London’s Metropolitan
Police service has banned all officers from going on duty
with visible tattoos anywhere on their bodies.
The Met already had a rule that limited tattoos that could
easily offend, such ink showing violent or intimidating
images or anything rendered as offensive to religious
beliefs.

the company said in a regulatory

Following a relatively higher revenue and profit growth
together with improved profitability, HCL's stock has gained
nearly 50% in the current calendar year so far. This compares
with 8.6% return by TCS stock and 11-16% drop in stocks of
Infosys and Wipro.
The question is whether HCL Tech will be able to retain its
growth momentum and its lead on bourses in the coming
quarters considering delays or cancellations of high-margin
discretionary projects by clients in the Western economies
and bleak chance of increase in billing rates for non-
discretionary projects. Here are some of the factors that
will help HCL Tech to stay ahead of competition. Tim Morse,
Yahoo's departing chief financial officer, will leave the
company with a severance package in accordance with a
termination without cause, the company said in a regulatory
filing Wednesday.
According to the filing, Tim Morse's severance includes 12
months' salary, an additional bonus of 12 months' pay as well
as part of his 2013 bonus, and early vesting of stock awards.
Morse's last official day with Yahoo will be November 15.
One of the first major decisions made by Marissa Mayer,
Yahoo's new chief executive was to replace Morse with
Fortinet CFO Ken Goldman, who was named to the position on
September 25.
Goldman is due to receive up to $18 million in salary,
bonuses, restricted stock, and stock options over the next
four years, according to a regulatory filing made a day after
his hiring. That is broken down into $1.1 million in salary
and bonus, restricted stock and performance-based stock
options worth as much as $12 million that will vest over four
years, and about $1.2 million in restricted stock to make up
for compensation lost for leaving Fortinet that will vest
over 12 months.

Amendment had etched into the Constitution

michael kors rose gold watch
Most striking, perhaps, was the process of state-building that the work of Civil War death advanced. Well before the Confederate surrender, Congress and the War Department provided for the establishment of national cemeteries, the most famous at Gettysburg, where, in a departure from custom, every grave was of equal status regardless of military rank or social station. Thereafter, responding to news of the desecration of Union graves and bodies and to a growing demand for action, the federal government created additional cemeteries and, even more importantly, assumed responsibility for those who died in its service. After four years and more than $4 million in expenditures, the bodies of 303,536 Union soldiers had been gathered and reburied in seventy-four national cemeteries--an extraordinary effort at the time, and one that deepened a sense of the new citizenship that the Fourteenth Amendment had etched into the Constitution.
Of the federal burial grounds that Civil War death brought into being, one in particular seemed to capture especially well the great transformations of the era. It covered not a battleground but rather the estate of the family of Robert E. Lee, the southern slaveholder and federal officer turned Confederate general, who had been driven out shortly after hostilities had commenced. For a time the estate served as Union Army headquarters, then as a contraband camp and a freedmen's village. Finally it became a national cemetery, consecrating a newly sovereign nation-state on a landscape where slaveholding sovereigns once claimed to rule, and taking the name of the estate itself: Arlington. But there as elsewhere, black soldiers were laid to rest in a separate and segregated section, testimony both to their role in remaking America and to the distance the country had yet to travel to fulfill its ideals.their long-standing campaign against environmental protections, American conservatives have taken a kitchen sink approach: First they exalted states' rights and attacked the Environmental Protection Agency; later, they reversed course, attacking states' rights and exalting the EPA. The only consistent objective was to thwart regulation, and the only question was which strategy would be most effective in achieving that goal.
